Pep Guardiola Hints at Potential Contract Extension with Manchester City Amidst Speculations

Pep Guardiola has kept Manchester City fans optimistic by not ruling out a new contract with the club. His current contract expires next summer, and after guiding City to their fourth consecutive Premier League title in May, he suggested that the upcoming season might be his last.

However, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach recently hinted at a possible extension of his tenure at the Etihad, which could stretch into a 10th year.

During City’s pre-season tour in New York, Guardiola spoke about his future ahead of the friendly match against AC Milan at Yankee Stadium.

“When I’m leaving, I will announce it, but I haven’t said that yet,” Guardiola, who has led City to six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and their first Champions League trophy, told reporters.

“We’ll see what happens. I’m not ruling out a contract extension. I would love to stay because I enjoy being here.

“Nine years at one club is a long time. I need to ensure it’s the right decision, not just for me, but for the club and the players.

“The players still show the same commitment as they did eight years ago, regardless of the competition. This is something I need to consider.

“I’m sure I won’t stay for another eight years! It’s healthy for both players and managers to have changes.

“Despite this, we have been successful, winning Premier Leagues and reaching the final stages of competitions like the Champions League. This is how I feel now.”

When asked about the potential return to America next summer for the proposed 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, Guardiola affirmed, “I would love to, absolutely.”

The 53-year-old also addressed the ongoing speculation about goalkeeper Ederson, who has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Earlier in the week, Guardiola hinted at some uncertainty regarding the 30-year-old Brazilian international, who has two years left on his contract. However, he was more definitive about Ederson’s future in his latest comments.

“I hope with all my heart that Eddie stays with us,” Guardiola said.

“I want him to remain here.

“I can’t imagine our recent successes without him. He is a key player in the dressing room.”
